We all have our own busy schedule, daily chores and family life, that we can’t always donate time to our favorite local charity or horse rescue. And many of us can’t always afford donating money when needed.
One of the horse rescues I continue to support indirectly is West Virginia Horse Network, Inc., a horse rescue with heart and soul, run by Nicki Walters.
Like many other rescues, this small run operated non- profit horse rescue is committed to helping horses in need due to abuse or neglect, and helps horses in danger because of unproper training and that showcase dangerous behaviors towards their owners.
But there is one main reason why I support, donate and give back to them as much as I can. Nicki along with a hand full of volunteers invest a lot of their personal time in retraining and rehabilitation of each and every single horse. Many of their intake horses might not show signs of neglect, but need the emotional and physical rehab, and require proper re-training. Their mission is to ensure they are finding the right home and getting them back on the right path. That’s what makes this horse rescue so special!
So, here are three easy and simple ways of donating and giving back:
Did you know that when you shop on Amazon Smile, the Amazon Smile Foundation will donate 0.5% of the purchase price of eligible products to the charitable organization of your choice. Just make sure you sign in at www.smile.amazon.com and pick your charity. This is seriously the EASIEST way of giving back.
As of January 1st my purchases generated almost $8! And we are only 4 days into the month.
Kroger Community Rewards
OK, seriously. I think we ALL shop at Kroger here in West Virginia.
Kroger Community Rewards makes fund-raising easy...all you have to do is shop at Kroger and swipe your Plus Card! Simply go online to www.kroger.com and create an account with your Rewards Card. You can then easily pick your favorite organization under your account.
I just did it under 5 min without leaving the house.
USE SOCIAL MEDIA
Facebook makes it extremely easy for us to add a fundraiser to our post. I am sure we have all seen the Birthday Fundraiser option. This might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it is free and it is simply one post. I recently shared a fundraiser from WVHN and a friend of mine from Nevada even donated!! You just never know. Every $ counts.
There are many other options besides volunteering, if you don’t have the time. Donating a gift card is a great option for any business owner AND it is tax deductable. As a photographer, I donated a photo shoot for their Holiday Party that was added to their silent auction.
You could also get creative and make a video like I did for them, showcasing many horses before and after their adoption. All images belong to the Rescue. Warning: Graphic content ahead
If you work for a business, ask how they support their local community and when and what they could donate. You will be surprised. Many corporate structured businesses have yearly budgets for donations.
I hope this blog reiterated some of the options of how we can all help even if we think we can’t.
So, let’s all use from now on www.smile.amazon.com!
